'Jaber Ahmad Bridge to decrease traffic congestion in two years'

  KUWAIT: Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works Eng. Abdulaziz Al-Kulaib said in a statement on Wednesday that the ministry is expecting the Cabinet's approval on awarding the tender of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Bridge, which costs KD 700 million. He noted that work in Mubarak Al-Kabeer Seaport is in progress according to the plan, adding that work in some areas is preceding the schedule.

Al-Kulaib said that Jaber Stadium was received by the Public Authority for Youth and Sports in 2009, expressing hope that there will be a new vision and effective management for the Sheikh Jaber Hospital, which is a major project and the first of its kind in Middle East.

Al-Kulaib said that more than 15 intersections are being built, adding that it could be expected that the traffic congestions will noticeably decrease in two years. He called on all concerned bodies to follow up on their projects with the ministry, if there were any changes, in order to avoid difficulties from happening.

Al-Kulaib said around six new tenders for new hospitals will be floated in near future, in addition to another hospital for the Ministry of Interior.

For his part, Assistant Undersecretary for Roads Sector Eng. Soud Al-Niqi said that the ministry is coordinating with the Central Tenders Committee and the State Audit Bureau to float a new tender for developing Damascus Street during the next three months.

Al-Niqi said that the ministry is developing Sabah Al-Ahmad City through building roads and bridges, noting that trucks coming from Al-Salmi, Al-Nuwaisib and Al-Abdali will take the regional roads in order to reduce traffic congestions.

For his part, Project Engineer of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital Eng. Ali Nadoum said that work is going smoothly without facing any obstacles

For his part, Municipal Council Member Abdullah Al-Kandari called on government bodies to address traffic congestions, noting that a number of engineers in his area have developed solutions to the problems faced by their area. He added that more than 38 thousand people live in Surrah, urging concerned bodies to address traffic problems in the area.

For his part Yousef Al-Awadhi expressed optimism over the future, in respect to the projects implemented by the ministry in all areas in Kuwait and the infrastructure projects implemented by the ministry. He urged concerned bodies to cooperate in order to develop solutions to traffic congestions.
