MoH denies reports on HIV spreading in hospital vicinity
 Thu, 17 May 2012

KUWAITI CITY : The Health Ministry refuted news items published in some local dailies recently which said HIV/AIDS is spreading in the areas surrounding the Infectious Disease Hospital.
The Director of Infect-ious Disease Hospital Dr Jamal Al-Duej denied reports on HIV/AIDS spreading in the vicinity of the hospital.

Al-Seyassah daily was told that the Legal Affairs Department had summoned the Director of Supplies and Distribution in the Infectious Diseases Hospital Ghareeb Hameed for questioning regarding a statement he issued to Al-Seyassah daily in which he said many HIV/AIDS patients visit barber shops in the neighborhood because the administration hasn’t renewed contract with the hospital barber.

It is noteworthy the hospital’s director ignored the statement for more than a year, and had only declared “there is no panic in the country on the spread of HIV/AIDS because patients are kept under surveillance and followed-up.”

Meanwhile, citizens and expatriates living near the hospital express fears over a possible outbreak of contagious diseases and epidemic in the area. They affirm the need to restrict patients from visiting barbering shops near the hospital.
