 Fri, 07 Oct 2011

LaCie has developed its own device to take on Pogoplug that will turn your USB-connected drives whether it is an Hard Drive, SSD or USB Flash drive into a network storage device. The LaPlug comes with the ability to wirelessly share files from either of the mentioned drives over your network at home, remotely or via the internet.

The device comes with a square design and gets a black glossy finish, it comes with a few connectivity options such as four USB 2.0 ports (three at the rear and one up front), Gigabit Ethernet and WiFi 802.11 b/g/n. It also comes with the ability to offer DLNA/UPnP streaming to send multimedia content from hooked up drives to your PS3, Xbox 360, Smartphone or Tablet and it can be used for easy automatic backups as well.

Like most of LaCie’s storage devices, the LaPlug was also designed by Neil Poulton, it measures 119 x 119 x 37 mm and weighs 300 grams / 10.6 ounces. The device supports file systems including FAT32, NTFS, HFS and HFS+ plus it is compatible with the latest operating systems; Windows 7, Vista, XP, Linux 2.6 and Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6. The LaCie LaPlug will be available soon and will be sold at $74.99 per unit.
